Online seminar on the methodology of the CIP Index in the framework of the joint cooperation between Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan and United Nations Industrial Development Organization

The Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction (hereinafter - the Ministry) held an online seminar in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (hereinafter - UNIDO) on the methodology of the Competitive Industrial Performance Index (hereinafter - CIP) and the impact of value added growth on manufacturing industries to the index on November 17 this year.

The seminar was attended by representatives of relevant divisions of the Ministry, concerned ministries and agencies, as well as branches of the manufacturing industry (“O‘zkimyosanoat”, “O‘zeltexsanoat”, “O‘zavtosanoat”, “Farmatsevtika tarmog‘ini rivojlantirish agentligi”).

A mutually beneficial seminar opened by Timur Khusanov, Head of the International ratings and business infrastructure improvement department, with an introductory speech containing reasonable data on the economic indicators of the Republic of Uzbekistan in recent years and development of industry for the next 5 years.

Also, Akbar Kalandarov, Deputy head of the International ratings and business infrastructure improvement department, spoke about the importance of international ratings and indices in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the structure of working with international ratings and indices as well as the direct impact of value added growth of manufacturing industries on the CIP index.

After that, Nurmukhammad Akhmedov, the head of the Division of international experiences and studying of foreign markets and working with international ratings and indices of the Center for research on markets and labor productivity under the Ministry gave information according to the indicators and rates in the report of the “Competitive Industrial Performance Index 2021”. He also informed about the factors that led to the current state of the country in the index and the measures to be taken to improve them in the future.

At the seminar, F.C. Bazaldua, Chief Statistician, the Department of Policy Research and Statistics of UNIDO, provided detailed information on the methodology for calculating the CIP index, the structural indicators of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the index in recent years, the change dynamics of their ranking and updates to the CIP index methodology in the coming year.

At the same time, Petra Kunclova, Statistician at the Department of Policy Research and Statistics of UNIDO made a presentation on the relevance of Goal 9 of Sustainable Development Goals (Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation) to the CIP Index and sources considered important in monitoring international industry statistics.

At the end of the seminar, the sides discussed point of mutual interest, as well as agreed to further strengthen cooperation to further accelerate the development of industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
