A roundtable on implementing green projects with the private sector

On 15 September this year, as part of the visit to Uzbekistan by the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Makhtar Diop, the Ministry of Finance hosted a roundtable discussion with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov, Finance Minister Timur Ishmetov, Deputy Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjaev, and other representatives from ministries and agencies, private sector and international organizations.
The round table discussed the role and benefits of private sector involvement in the implementation of climate change mitigation projects and the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a green economy and the involvement of the private sector in the implementation of climate-smart projects and decarbonization of the economy. The participants also looked at successful examples of green projects in other countries.
As a recognized leader in green investment in emerging economies, the IFC is ready to support the Government of Uzbekistan in developing a roadmap to mobilize private investment for climate change projects.
According to IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop: "As we plan for the post COVID-19 pandemic economic recovery, Uzbekistan has a unique opportunity to invest in climate change mitigation projects that will not only bring short-term benefits such as job creation and economic growth, but also have long-term positive impacts, including reducing carbon use and achieving a sustainable economy.
