The second Meeting of the Coordination Council of the joint program of UNDP, UNFPA and FAO

On August 10 of this year, an online meeting was held within the framework of the joint program of the Ministry of Economic Development, the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) "Promoting the creative and innovative potential of youth and vulnerable populations by strengthening their adaptive capacity to solve problems of economic and food security in vulnerable communities the Aral Sea region"
The event was attended by the Director of the Department for the Development of International Cooperation and the Protocol Service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Matkarimov, UNDP Permanent Representative in Uzbekistan Matilda Dimovska, authorized representatives of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakistan, as well as responsible employees of the Chimbay, Bozataus and Karauzyak districts.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Department of Development of International Cooperation and Protocol Service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan delivered a welcome speech to the members of the Project Coordination Council.
It was also noted that the goals of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 were given special attention to further strengthening social support for the population living in the Aral Sea region.
In May 2020, in order to join forces with international organizations, on the initiative of the Government of Uzbekistan, an important resolution of the UN General Assembly “On declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies” was adopted. I am convinced that this Resolution will contribute to further and even closer consolidation of the efforts of the international community to ensure the joint implementation of measures to combat the challenges of one of the key regions of Uzbekistan.
The parties exchanged views on the achieved interim results of the project, which were implemented in 3 pilot regions of Karakalpakstan in terms of assisting the development of human capital, creating a favorable environment for entrepreneurship and income generation, as well as infrastructure development. In particular:
- the material and technical base of 3 vocational training centers has been updated, on the basis of which more than 250 people have been trained and 80 people have been assisted in finding employment.
- technical support was provided to 3 young production cooperatives, through which 100 people. vulnerable segments of the population and young people are involved in the agricultural sector.
- improved access of more than 16,000 citizens to basic services (drinking water, electrification, and healthcare).
As a result of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness for further multifaceted and mutually beneficial partnership.
