On September 23, 2021, a round table was held in the City Palace Hotel in Tashkent in a hybrid format on the topic: "Strengthening cooperation for the transition of Uzbekistan to a "green" economy" with the participation of representatives of ministries, agencies, development partners and international organizations.

The round table is organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, which acts as the technical secretariat of the Interdepartmental Council for the Promotion and Implementation of the "green" Economy, with the support of the United Nations Development Program and the World Bank.

The purpose of this "round table" was to present the priorities of the Government in the process of transition of Uzbekistan to the "green economy" until 2030 and beyond, to discuss cooperation with international partners in this direction, as well as to coordinate further steps for the development of a Strategic Framework for the Green Economy, including the implementation of the Green Economy Strategy.

Work on the development of the " green economy "in Uzbekistan was started at the beginning of 2020, after the approval of the" Strategy for the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a green economy for the period 2019-2030 " in October 2019. This strategy provides for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the country by improving energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, improving resource efficiency and crop yields, as well as reducing land degradation.

The global community is calling for a "green" recovery and has mobilized financial resources for the sustainable use of natural resources through the transition to a circular economy of a closed cycle, the conservation of biodiversity, the more far-sighted use of ecosystem services in urban infrastructure planning, agricultural development, and business management, as well as for the prevention of greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to a changing climate.

In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic and the global health crisis have strengthened the link between public health, climate and nature, giving a strong impetus to building a "green" economy.

During the round table, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov presented presentations on the following topics: "Priorities and plans for the transition of Uzbekistan to a green economy" and "Next steps to support the Strategic Framework for the Transition to a green economy", as well as Doina Munteanu, Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the topic "Mapping the initiatives of development partners/MFIs in the field of green development in Uzbekistan".

International development organizations and financial institutions announced their current and planned contributions to the Government's key priorities for the transition to a" green " economy, separately noting the issues of sustainable and rational use of natural resources, including the development of rural regions, efficient and careful use of water and land resources, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, as well as the reduction of greenhouse gases in all sectors of the economy, industrial modernization, pollution reduction, the use of alternative energy sources.

The UNDP Permanent Representative in Uzbekistan, Matilda Dimovska, stressed that UNDP will support the government's efforts to restore a better, more sustainable society and a "green" economy, while paying attention to reducing the burden on natural resources and the environment.

At the end of the event, the participants exchanged views on improving the coordination and unification of the work of all international partners in the "green" economy, creating a single "entry point" and ensuring close cooperation of all stakeholders in the process of" green " development of the country for the next decade.
