On 10 September, the 9th meeting of the Council on Interregional and Cross-Border Cooperation of the CIS member States, chaired by the Republic of Uzbekistan, was held in the form of a videoconference.

Representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS member States, as well as the CIS Executive Committee, took part in the event.

The agenda of the Council meeting included 12 issues, in particular the status of interregional and cross-border cooperation in the CIS member States, the CIS Concept of Interregional and Cross-border Cooperation up to 2030 and the Plan of Actions for its implementation, the process of organization of the first Forum of the CIS regions, proposals for overcoming the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in various sectors of the economies of the CIS member States and others.

At the beginning of the meeting, it was decided to transfer the chairmanship of the Council to the Uzbek side (the representative of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan was elected Chairman of the Council).

The meeting noted that, in recent years, Uzbekistan had achieved the positive results in the development and strengthening of friendly relations with foreign partners, particularly with the States closest to it. As a result, trade among the countries of the Commonwealth has increased and close interregional and border cooperation has been established.

Within the framework of the practical implementation of the initiatives put forward by the Republic of Uzbekistan during the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Ashgabat (10 - 11 October 2019), taking into account the high level of readiness and elaboration, the members of the Council supported and unanimously approved the proposal of Uzbekistan to adopt the Concept of Interregional and Border Cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the period up to 2030 and the Plan for its implementation, with subsequent agreement at the meeting of the Economic Council (15 September, etc.) and approval by the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS.

It was also decided to hold the first Forum of the CIS Regions and the tenth regular meeting of the Council on Interregional and Border Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Uzbekistan in 2021.

At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their gratitude to the Uzbek side for initiating and organizing the Council meeting by videoconference and noted that the Council had become a solid platform for developing interregional relations and strengthening further  cooperation.
