Discussion of an action plan to develop a circular economy for agriculture and the food value chain in Uzbekistan

The Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, together with the World Bank, organized the third final round table to review and discuss the action plan for the development of a circular economy for the agricultural value chain in Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Water Resources, Finance, Energy, Investment and Foreign Trade, Innovative Development, Housing and Communal Services, Agriculture, the State Statistics Committee, the State Veterinary Committee, the State Committee for Ecology, the Uzhydromet, the Water Inspectorate, the Agricultural Inspectorate, the Council of Farmers, Dekhkan Farms and Landowners of Uzbekistan, as well as the World Bank and KPMG.

The event was opened by the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov with a welcoming speech, noting that this event will serve to develop the draft Circular Economy Action Plan, its contribution to achieving national and sectorial development goals, assessing the value chains of the agro-food sector, key challenges and international experience in this area.

Also, in order to achieve the goals set in sectoral strategies, such as the Strategy for the Development of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030, the Strategy for the Management of Solid Waste in the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2019-2028, in Uzbekistan, an action plan for the development of a revolving economy for production value chain will help identify key sectors and areas to be addressed by 2030.
On the part of the WB, the country manager for Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli made a welcoming speech, noting the importance of the transition to a "green" economy and combating the consequences of climate change by developing strategic objectives, which will contribute to further cooperation in this direction.
During the online event, KPMG spokeswoman Amrita Gangly spoke about the project, in particular, about the analysis of the components of the value chain of agricultural products in the agro-industrial complex, within the framework of which the issues of introducing mechanisms for the circular economy will have to be addressed.
The representative of the Joint Research Center presented the international experience of the EU policy in the field of agro-industrial turnover, highlighting the bio-economic strategy, the action plan for the renewable economy, the identification of key sectors, and the agro-industrial strategy.
In addition, an expert opinion on a draft action plan based on a gradual transition to a five-component interleaved economy, such as agricultural water consumption, bio-resource use, agricultural planning, resource, and energy needs efficiency and sustainable packaging solutions in food and food infrastructure.

It was also noted that the expected results of the implementation of this action plan until 2030 will contribute to solving such global problems as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, waste disposal through recycling.
At the end of the event, specialists from ministries, departments, and organizations answered questions from the speakers.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on further steps to develop and implement an action plan for the development of a revolving economy for the value chain of agricultural products in Uzbekistan.
