On January 7 this year, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Bobur Abdinazarov met with experts from Chile on geology and mining and metallurgical industry Juan Carlos Salas and Melvin Romero.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Department for Development of International Cooperation and Protocol Service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Shukhrat Matkarimov, Head of the Department for Development of Geology and Metallurgical Industry Behzod Mamatov, as well as Head of Cooperation with the World Bank Group Behzod Hamroyev.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the work carried out in Uzbekistan to develop the mining and metallurgical industry, ongoing projects and programs, access to natural resources, the role of using advanced technologies in the industry, the development of copper, mining, metallurgical, chemical industries, and the development of industrial infrastructure.

At the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on the possibility of applying Chile's experience in the development of the copper industry in Uzbekistan, the necessary measures to ensure the achievement of targets for the development of the industry, the specifics of greening copper production, as well as the energy efficiency of the mining and metallurgical plants of Almalyk and Navoi, the organization of a copper industry cluster.

As part of their visit to Uzbekistan, the experts will visit the Almalyk and Navoi mining and metallurgical plants and get acquainted with the production of copper and rare metals.
