Meeting with representatives of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development

On September 8 of this year, the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction hosted a meeting of the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov with representatives of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), headed by the head of the Department of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Reactor Safety of Germany, Juergen Keinhorst.

The meeting was also attended by the head of the Department of Green Growth and Global Relations of the OECD Kumi Kitamori, Senior Program Manager of the OECD Matthew Griffith, Director of the department Shukhrat Matkarimov and Head of the department Utkirjon Kholbadalov and other specialists of the ministry.

The agenda included issues on participation in the regional dialogue "Advantages of regional cooperation in Central Asia in the field of transformation of the energy-water-land relationship", involvement of the OECD in the implementation of projects in Uzbekistan, etc.

The OECD delegation informed the Uzbek side about the regional dialogue "Advantages of regional cooperation in Central Asia in the field of transformation of the energy-water-land relationship", which is scheduled for October 15, 2021 in Tashkent and invited to participate in this event.

The Uzbek side expressed its readiness to participate in this dialogue, while emphasizing the need to identify a coordinating agency from Uzbekistan on this issue.

Also, the Uzbek side noted the importance of the development of the "green" economy, in particular, improving energy efficiency. In this context, Mr. Keinhorst proposed to work out the issue of supporting the Energy Efficiency Improvement Fund under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to Juergen Keinhorst, the OECD has a positive experience of implementing such a project in Ukraine.

In addition, the foreign side offered advisory assistance in developing strategies for the development of a “green” economy for the long term.

In turn, the Uzbek side informed the guests about the upcoming regulatory document on the development of the Tashkent region and expressed interest in attracting OECD and BMU experts to implement infrastructure projects in this region.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation on the issues on the agenda and plans for the future.
