Meeting with representatives of the World Bank

An online meeting was held between the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov with representatives of the World Bank, headed by the Regional Director of the World Bank for Central Asia, Tatiana Proskuryakova.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Minister of Finance Omonullo Nasritdinxodjaev, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Bobur Abdinazarov and other specialists of the ministries and agencies.

The World Bank was represented by Rakhymzhan Asangaziev, Chief Operations Officer of the Tashkent office, Antonio Nunez, Head of Infrastructure Sector in Central Asia, and Javier Aguilar, Senior Mining Specialist.

The purpose of the meeting was to analyze and assess the current level of development of the copper industry in Uzbekistan, as well as develop practical recommendations based on advanced international experience within the framework of government decisions.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to discussing the activities of the Project Office for the development of geology, mining metallurgy and the copper processing industry under the Ministry of Economic Development.

The Uzbek side noted the importance of effective and efficient interaction of international expert consultants, international financial institutions and national specialists in the timely and high-quality implementation of the project to create a copper industry cluster.

The key aspects of partnership with foreign partners to create an appropriate consortium with the participation of specialized reputable consulting companies were also thoroughly considered.

The World Bank experts briefly reviewed the experiences of Chile, Canada, Finland and Australia in the formation and development of the mining industry, including the copper industry, as well as the possibilities of their application in the conditions of Uzbekistan.

Following the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on further practical actions in this area on the basis of mutual trust and support.
