Meeting with representatives of Marubeni Corporation (Japan)

On September 27 of this year, the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of Marubeni Corporation (Japan).

 

Marubeni Corporation is a Japanese corporation that was founded in 1858. President and CEO Masumi Kakinoki, and a share capital of 262.7 million yen. The main office is located in Tokyo. The number of companies included in Marubeni Corporation is 453. Marubeni Corporation's business line is construction, energy, chemical and food industry, logistics, transport, textiles.

The meeting was attended by Marubeni's Regional Director of Operations for the CIS Naotaka Minezaki, Head of the Marubeni representative office in Tashkent Kensuke Nishiyama, as well as Assistant to the head of the Marubeni representative office in Tashkent Alexander Azizov.

 

From the Uzbek side, the meeting was attended by the director of the Department for the Development of the Green Economy, the head of the Department for the coordination of the implementation of the strategy and programs for the development of the green economy, as well as employees and an international expert of the Department for the Development of the Green Economy of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction.

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the potential of cooperation within the framework of carbon credit trading projects based on Joint Credit Mechanism JSM (joint lending Mechanism).

During the meeting, representatives of Marubeni Corporation said that their company is actively involved in the implementation of green energy projects and carbon credits trading based on JSM around the world, including with the support of the Official Development Assistance program of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JISA)

The Japanese side announced the main products and areas of activity within which the JSM is implemented, including:

        – the Smart City and Infrastructure project in which the company tries to use smart technologies in order to solve social, environmental, management issues such as environmental problems, energy security problems, administrative and others;

        – new technologies for decarbonization, which contributes to the creation of a new generation of business and the formation of a low-carbon society based on waste recycling and others.

The Corporation has implemented projects for the net generation of 12610 MW of electricity, including 2 projects for the expansion of planted areas in 2 countries, covering 140,000 hectares (almost 60% of the area of Tokyo) and others.

 

As part of the implementation of AXIS projects around the world, the Corporation has started the implementation of 2 projects:

– in Thailand - A project of energy supply using a 1 MW rooftop solar power system for metal processing plants and auto parts

– In the Philippines, a 9 MW solar power supply project for a ceramic and cement plant.

 The result of the implementation of these 2 projects will be a reduction in CO2 emissions by 6360 tons/year

Following the meeting, the parties agreed on further cooperation on the implementation of projects within the framework of the AXIS mechanism, as well as on the exchange of information on green energy and trade in carbon credits.
