On July 5 of this year, the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction hosted a meeting of the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov with representatives of the delegation of the French Movement of Enterprises “MEDEF International” headed by the Chairman of the French Business Council Claude Imauven.

For reference: The MEDEF International movement is the largest employers' federation in France, which was founded in 1998. The total number of members is more than 800 thousand companies. Actively participates in lobbying at the local, regional, national levels and in the EU area. Every year, the Movement's delegations visit a number of countries, especially developing ones, to implement business projects. Strenuously promotes “sustainable development” and ESG.

The delegation included Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Uzbekistan, Ms. Aurelia Bouchez, Deputy General Director of MEDEF International Business Movement Geraldine Lemble, Senior Vice President for Public Relations of Alstom Philippe Delleur, Airbus Vice President for Strategy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia Jacques Garrigue and other representatives.

The agenda included issues on further expansion of areas of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Uzbek side acquainted the guests with the ongoing large-scale reforms of Uzbekistan in the field of liberalization of certain sectors of the economy, privatization, development of the "green" economy, transport and agricultural spheres.

In addition, the foreign side was informed about the ongoing reforms to create conditions for stable economic growth by improving the business environment and developing the private sector in accordance with the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the ongoing reforms of Uzbekistan in the field of economic liberalization, "green" economy, transformation and privatization of state-owned enterprises, regional development, as well as improving the business environment and private sector development (Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan PD No. 101 dated April 8, 2022).

Moreover, at the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the development of agriculture, the mining sector and the development of the copper cluster in Uzbekistan. The meeting participants also exchanged views on the ongoing work in the field of privatization, in particular, ongoing projects with the companies UzAirways and Uzbekistan Railways. In addition, the need for the development of master plans for the development of regions was noted.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement: further expansion of cooperation on the privatization of JSC "UzAirways" and "Uzbekistan Railways" (Alstom company)
