Symposium within the framework of the BRICS Summit dedicated to the development of rural areas and poverty reduction

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov this week took part (with a video message) at the opening of the BRICS Symposium which is dedicated to the development of rural areas and poverty reduction.

The Symposium was attended by the Ministers of Agriculture of the BRICS countries, Director General of FAO Qu Dongyu, Head of the National Administration for the Revival of Rural Areas of China Liu Huan Xin, as well as high-ranking officials from 10 countries, representatives of international organizations, research institutes, and business communities.

The symposium was held simultaneously with the 12th meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the BRICS countries on the topic: “Strengthening cooperation of the BRICS countries for the development of agriculture and rural areas.”

 The main purpose of the Symposium was to exchange views on cooperation in the field of development of rural areas and poverty reduction.

During the event, the Uzbek side announced the measures taken for the social protection of vulnerable segments of the population, poverty reduction, development of rural areas, and their potential. In particular, the introduction of a system of minimum consumer spending, the institute of khakim's assistant, the “Single Register of Social Protection” and others.

It was noted that in order to achieve the set goals, it is important to ensure macroeconomic stability and sustainable economic development. Also, based on the fact that the majority of the population is young people, the need for the development of human capital was noted.

During the Symposium, representatives of other countries also spoke about the measures taken in the field of poverty reduction, development of agriculture, rural areas, and human capital.
