The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has released the next edition of the Human Development Report 2020, titled “The Next Frontier - Human Development and Anthropocene 1”. The Report on Human Development has been published by the United Nations Development Program since 1990, and Uzbekistan's performance has been recorded since 1993.

The Human Development Index of the Report is a set of published statistics on 3 key factors in human development - longevity and health, education and a decent standard of living.

The Republic of Uzbekistan in the latest Report ranked 106th among 189 countries with an index value of 0.720 (out of maximum index value of 1.000), having improved its result from the 2019 report by +2 positions and +0.01 index value. For information, the Human Development Index 2020 report analyzes the results of 2019.

It should be noted that due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Human Development Index 2021 report is expected to show a sharp decline in most countries. Despite the pandemic measures, economic growth in Uzbekistan in January-September this year amounted to 0.4% and is expected to reach an average of 1.4% by the end of the year. This figure is a positive increase compared to many other developed and developing countries.

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PD-6003 “On improving the position of the Republic of Uzbekistan in international rankings and indices and the introduction of a new mechanism of systematic work with them in government agencies and organizations” adopted on 2 June this year, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been set for The Human Development Index. According to the decree, the country's index is expected to reach 0.82 by 2030.

Note: Purchasing power parity (PPP) is a measurement of prices in different countries that uses the prices of specific goods to compare the absolute purchasing power of the countries' currencies. In many cases, PPP produces an inflation rate that is equal to the price of the basket of goods at one location divided by the price of the basket of goods at a different location.
