Improving energy efficiency in production

For a number of years Uzbekistan has been demonstrating stable rates of economic development at the level of 6% of GDP growth. Also, to ensure the further development of the economy, it is necessary to accelerate the increase in the competitiveness of production, including by reducing the cost of energy resources as a result of the widespread introduction of modern energy-saving technologies.

Energy efficiency issues require the use of qualitatively new tools not only in terms of production, processing and transportation, but also in consumption.

One of the examples of measures to accelerate the processes of modernization of production and the introduction of energy efficient technologies is the Project "Increasing the energy efficiency of industrial enterprises" under the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The project has been operating since 2011. The project uses concessional loans from the World Bank - 325 million dollars in equivalent, as well as funds of commercial banks in Uzbekistan. Due to this the majority of energy-intensive enterprises have the opportunity to significantly reduce the consumption of electricity and natural gas in the production of products.

Since 2011, 101 investment projects have been implemented at more than 43 industrial enterprises. The implementation of these subprojects has brought savings in electricity in the amount of more than 524 million kWh and natural gas - 229 million cubic meters per year. In addition, participating companies have reduced their emissions of over 580,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Projects are being implemented in such areas as: oil and gas, mining, chemical, electricity and energy, food, construction and processing. So, at the enterprises of JSC “Uzkimyosanoat” 15 projects have been implemented, JSC Uzbekneftegaz - 12 projects, JSC Uzmetkombinat - 10 projects, in the field of “Uzmaterials” - 17 projects, including 14 projects for a number of cement producers. - 15 projects, etc.

Financing of subprojects is carried out through six banks of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

National Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, JSCB "AsakaBank", JSCB "SanoatQurilishBank", JSCB "HamkorBanк", JSCB "AsiaAllianceBank", JSCB "Infinbank".

In addition, the allocation of 100 million euros has now been approved by the European Investment Bank, which in turn will create additional opportunities for financing energy efficiency projects for both large and small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.

Now in our country, favorable conditions are being created, when each domestic manufacturer has the opportunity to modernize its production, including using preferential credit funds within the framework of the project "Improving the energy efficiency of industrial enterprises".

It should be noted that the Project will last until 2023. Industrial enterprises of the republic can apply to one of the participating banks in order to obtain a loan. To do this, it is enough to submit an application and, upon receiving approval from the World Bank, take advantage of the loan on favorable and convenient terms.

Taking a step towards improving energy efficiency in manufacturing is easy. But the savings and the results obtained will have a long-term effect on large, small and medium-sized enterprises.
