Meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank

On October 7 of this year, the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Asian Development Bank of Malta Georg Rudolf Maas, Jalilov Begzod.

The Uzbek side was attended by the Director of the Green Economy Development Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection and employees of the Hydrometeorological Service Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, issues such as the transition to a green economy, adaptation to climate change and investment in green energy were discussed. Mr. Malte said that the Asian Development Bank has allocated a grant of 1 billion US dollars for the Central Asian region for the period 2019-2030 and from July 1, 2023, projects will be funded only according to the Paris Agreement. In addition, ADB representatives reported that they are launching a new technical assistance, which is aimed at increasing interest in climate change, while three intermediate results are being established that need to be achieved, these are:
1 - Development of a climate change strategy.
2 - Assessment of investment opportunities for climate change.
3 - Technical assistance aimed at improving and building technical capacity.

At the end of his speech, Mr. Malte asked representatives of ministries and departments to give suggestions on areas for technical assistance. Several directions were proposed by representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed on further cooperation and the identification of new areas for technical assistance.
