The Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction (MEDPR) is implementing a project on the topic of “Methods for Organizing and Developing the Practice of Regulatory Sandbox” within the KSP 2022-2023 program of the Korea Development Institute (KDI).
*Definition: A regulatory sandbox is a regulatory approach, typically summarized in writing and published, that allows live, time-bound testing of innovations under a regulator's oversight. Regulatory sandboxes enable in a real-life environment the testing of innovative technologies, products, services or approaches, which are not fully compliant with the existing legal and regulatory framework.

To identify the cooperation plan on this KSP 2022-2023 project MEDPR and KDI signed an Activity Arrangement on October 17th this year.

The launching seminars are being held from 22th to 25th November this year to start the project officially and to discuss and elaborate research topics with high level representatives and officials from respective ministries and authorities (including Ministry of ICT development, Ministry of Innovative development, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Central Bank, National Agency of Perspective Projects, Association of Banks). A delegation of Korean experts including KDI officials visited Uzbekistan in order to open this project officially and conduct seminars with the participation of relevant experts.

The seminars are taking place at the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research and they include following activities:
- MEDPR, KDI representatives, Korean and Uzbek experts discussed the research plan of each sub-topic, identified policy priorities and the scope of policy consultations;
- Korean experts collected relevant data and information to finalize the research topics by conducting interviews and setting cooperation with stakeholder organizations;
- Local consultants from Uzbekistan with appropriate qualifications are to be recruited for respective research topics.
