Meeting of representatives of the Working Groups on Non-Agricultural Land Privatization and Urbanization, Housing and Engineering Networks with World Bank Group experts

The next meeting was held on January 31 this year (online) of the World Bank to discuss the draft Cooperation Program with Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 (hereinafter referred to as the Cooperation Program), First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Adiz Boboev, Head of the World Bank Group in Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli and others attended.

The participants stressed the need to improve the living standards of the population in urban and rural areas, exchange experience and information on the drivers of economic growth.

Marco Mantovanelli informed the participants about the work done on the preparation of the Partnership Program in the following 3 main areas:

  • increasing inclusive employment in the private sector (accelerating the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, as well as developing a regulatory framework to improve business and competition, increasing the productive contribution of land and capital to economic growth, promoting the development of the private sector, agribusiness and etc.);
  • development of human capital for an inclusive and productive market economy (improved access to quality education, more efficient, inclusive and sustainable health and water services, increased access to the social protection system and an inclusive labor market);
  • Growth of the "green" economy to improve well-being (more efficient use of natural resources).

They also discussed the development of transport, energy and water supply and made proposals for their inclusion in the draft of the new Cooperation Program.

During the event, an exchange of views took place on the priority areas of reforms carried out in Uzbekistan.
