The level of accreditation of a medical institution is the most accurate indicator of the level of services provided.

Accreditation of clinics, hospitals and other medical institutions is one of the important mechanisms influencing the quality of medical services and the order of their provision by the state, international medical organizations, medical tourism associations.

The growing interest of healthcare institutions in international accreditation is due to the high demands of the population on the quality of medical services, as well as the globalization of medical technologies and the demand for medical services. In most developed countries, citizens demand quality of medical services and hospital standards. This trend is particularly strong in the social systems of rich countries, including the European Union.

It is also important that the accreditation certificate issued by a reputable international organization significantly increases the competitiveness of the medical institution in the global market of medical services. Indeed, today, treatment abroad for a variety of reasons is becoming increasingly relevant for citizens of different countries.

There are several well-known organizations that accredit medical institutions in accordance with international standards: Joint Commission International (JCI), The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, CHKS Healthcare Accreditation Quality Unit and others.

Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation is a prestigious international health certification that is the “gold standard” of quality and confirms a medical organization’s compliance with internationally accepted medical and administrative standards, as well as international patient safety requirements. To date, more than 800 clinics around the world are accredited to JCI standards.

The International Joint Commission on Accreditation of Medical Institutions is a non-profit organization based in the United States. Its goal is to continuously improve the work of medical organizations around the world and encourage them to meet the high standards agreed at the international level.

JCI accreditation principles.

Accreditation programs are constantly updated and reviewed by a dedicated working group. Accreditation is closely related to the cultural and religious characteristics of a country and has a wide range of standard variability.

The main parameters of the evaluation of the medical institution are: quality and sustainability of medical services provided; their safety for patients and staff; constantly working on quality for the company.

JCI standards are divided into the following types of activities: амбулатор for medical services; for inpatient care facilities; for primary care and so on.

The importance of JCI for medical institutions.

Having this standard will solve many problems for medical institutions.

First, quality standards improve the way we work with and care for patients and increase the loyalty of the institution’s customers and staff.

Second, it confirms the high standards of service and improves the marketing activities of the institution. Accreditation by management is an important moment in management, where the head of the company looks at the business from the perspective of a ‘customer, patient’ rather than a proprietor and manager who often opens up.

The procedure for accreditation of medical institutions in Uzbekistan is established in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of January 14, 2021 № 16 "On the introduction of mechanisms for accreditation of medical organizations."

According to the Resolution:

From January 1, 2022, a mechanism for voluntary accreditation of medical organizations was introduced;

The Ministry of Health is the authorized state body for accreditation of medical organizations and certification of health experts;

Approved the administrative regulations for the provision of public services for voluntary accreditation of medical organizations, providing the following:

procedure for accreditation of medical organizations;

the procedure for expanding and reducing the scope of accreditation of medical organizations;

the order of inspection control over the activities of accredited medical organizations.

The Ministry of Health will establish a commission for the accreditation of medical organizations, as well as a register of experts and technical experts of accredited health organizations.

Before applying for accreditation, the medical institution conducts a self-assessment of compliance with accreditation standards.

For accreditation, medical organizations submit an electronic application through the Center for Public Services or the Single Interactive Public Services Portal. In this case, a fee of 2 Basic Calculations must be paid. In addition, a fee of not less than 15% of the price specified in the contract will be paid for the review of the results of self-assessment and examination of documents.
