Meeting with representatives of the company "Veolia Environment"

A meeting was held with representatives of the French company “Veolia Environment”, headed by an officially authorized representative, Vice President of “Veolia Environment” for Central and Eastern Europe Malika Genduri in the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction. The agenda for discussion included:
- Issues within the framework of the PPP project on district heating;
- The current situation, as well as preliminary negotiations in anticipation of the signing of the PPP Agreement. Preparation of a PPP project for the heating season by October 2021.
For information: “Veolia Environment” is a French diversified company based in Paris. It specializes in four areas of activity: supply and treatment of water, utilities, energy and transportation services. The company is one of the leaders in resource management optimization with over 160 years of industry experience.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of government departments and experts.
Initiatives in the field of PPP were discussed, primarily the development of the communal sector, as well as the concept of a project for transferring Tashkent's heat supply systems to management within the framework of a public-private partnership.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the further development of the engineering and communication infrastructure of the centralized heating system in the city of Tashkent, improving the conditions and living standards of the population, as well as improving the quality of housing and communal services provided to it.
In addition, the parties expressed mutual interest in the early signing of the PPP Agreement, which is planned for this spring, and noted that "this agreement will be an indicator of joint cooperation between Uzbekistan and France."
During the meeting, the side of “Veolia Environment” representatives noted that “due to the pandemic, they had to slow down the pace of project development, but did not interrupt, in addition, various financing models and technical aspects of the project were studied, which in turn became the basis for further preparation of this project ”.
Following the meeting, it was noted that in the near future a working group will be formed, which will include leading specialists from the Ministries of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, Finance and Justice, the Khokimiyat of Tashkent city and PPP representatives to develop and carry out further actions on the specified PPP project on centralized heat supply.
The parties also confirmed their readiness for further mutually beneficial cooperation and expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the PPP Project within the framework of corporate governance.
