On February 9, 2020 at the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, Ilkhom Norkulov, held meeting with the head of the Representative Office of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency "JICA" Suguru Miyazaki to discuss the current economic situation and key reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan. as well as prospects for cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the JICA Representative Office Katayama Hiroki and other representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Japanese side was informed with the main indicators of the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan for 2020, macroeconomic forecasts and 20 drivers of the country's socio-economic development in 2021, as well as priority areas of cooperation. The special interest of the Uzbek side in the implementation of future projects in the field of "green economy" with the active introduction of "green technologies" also was noted.
Representatives of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency “JICA” highly appreciated the initiated reforms in the field of science and innovation, recognizing the human and scientific-production potential of the republic.
During the meeting, the Japanese side expressed particular interest in the development and implementation of a project to create an Innovation Center to attract advanced Japanese technologies in the fields of agriculture and water management, as well as construction and energy.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Siguru once again emphasized JICA's readiness to provide all-round practical assistance to the ongoing reforms and expressed hope for further fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership.
